The other day, after a long week, we decided to make some fan art for Lindsay's favorite game, Darklands. I got Gunther. He's a big buff dude. The original challenge was a 5 or 10 minute sketch, I believe.

I drew this in preparation for my Super Awesome Art Challenge piece. The theme was 'teeth' and after much deliberation, I decided to do a gangster named Teeth, ala the creepy Dick Tracey characters.

After 2 minutes I realized it was awful. Blech.

So I decided to do a more serious and creepy version, and lose the dumb hat. But keep the popped collar.

I liked this one much better.

I started drawing in a tiny moleskin that Lindsay gave me almost two years ago.

I drew in a whole lot of other sketchbooks since then, but this one was always my favorite. I only drew in it when I wanted to just have fun and draw. Not to plan, not for work, not for a project, not to take notes, not to sketch or scribble. Only when I wanted to draw.

And now I have a tiny little book full of drawings I really love. But today I did my last drawing in it. And it was kind of sad.

I've got a pile of sketchbooks unopened or 1/2 full, but they're not the same.

The other day I was reflecting on stuff. I reflected upon what makes me who I am.

Chin. I have one that is square and sticks out far.
Facial hair. I have it, and there's a patch of hair missing from the corner of my square chin, due mainly to stress and nerves.
Messy hair swept to one side. Because that's how my hair is.
Glasses. I wear them, and once Lindsay made me try on her contacts. It was a bad idea and ruined me on the idea of contacts forever.
Bandana. I wear many. One at a time, though.
Mouth that hangs open. Maybe it's my heavy jaw, but I often find myself staring slack-jawed. Lindsay usually reminds me by saying "do you want me to throw popcorn in there?"

And that's what makes me, me! Here it is again in picture form.

In a magic world where I had some say over who becomes the next president, I would choose someone who is stern and tough on the issues. And they'd be downright mean, too. Mean to terrorists and enemies. And children who whine too much. And old people who drive stupidly. And teenagers.

Also, I'd have to choose someone who's rich. That way I'd be assured that they were also smart. Because rich people get rich by being smart. Or by being born into lots and lots of money.

Plus, we all know rich people would be good at staying in touch with the pressing issues of the common folks. Because rich people are better than poor people at pretty much everything. Except for being lazy and smelling badly. Poor people are so good at that.

I just finished Uncharted : Drake's Fortune, a great PS3 game (finally).

Whenever I saw the glint of hidden treasure, I immediately rushed for it. Even if it meant getting shot in the face by 6 pirates while I bent over to grab it.

Letter to Water.

Dear Water,

How's it going? I'm pretty good. Sometimes I wish it wasn't so cold out. But I bet you don't like it either since it freezes you and stuff.

I just wanted to write to tell you that you're really rad. I like taking showers, and without you that'd be impossible. I like the way you and soap get all foamy. Sometimes I use the foam to make a beard or a tall hat.

Also, you're a total lifesaver at the gym. When I get all thirsty on the rowing machine and a need a break, I can always count on you to make me feel awesome again. Hey, isn't it funny that the rowing machine is like pretending to row a boat on you? I just thought of that.

So anyway, I just wanted to say 'thanks' and 'keep up the good work'. I try really hard to not pollute you and stuff, even though it's hard sometimes. I hope you and all the penguins along really well. I like them too.
